Between Cliffs and Dolphins, the Sea Trail Reveals the Soul of Pipa
Discover the secrets of Pipa’s coast on an experience that combines Atlantic Forest hiking, marine wildlife watching, and kayaking
Among Brazil’s coastal gems, Pipa shines with its own light. This paradise, located just 85 km from Natal, captivates hearts with a unique combination of natural beauty and a welcoming atmosphere. Multicolored cliffs overlook crystal-clear beaches, while dolphins dance in the waves at sunset. The village center, with its cobblestone streets, houses cozy bistros and craft shops that complete the perfect setting for those seeking authenticity and connection with nature.

But Pipa holds secrets beyond its stunning landscapes. This region is a true ecological sanctuary, where warm waters serve as nurseries for sea turtles and rocky shores shelter impressive biodiversity. The fusion of three ecosystems — the deep blue of the sea, the vibrant green of the Atlantic Forest, and the earthy tones of the cliffs — creates a landscape as diverse as it is fascinating, ideal for experiences ranging from ecotourism to environmental education.
It is in this magical setting that the Sea Trail comes alive, inviting you on an unforgettable journey. Come discover why Pipa is considered one of the most complete destinations in Brazil’s Northeast!
CONNECTING WITH NATURE
The experience begins with transportation from your accommodation in Pipa. The first stop is the Pipa Ecological Sanctuary Park, a true Atlantic Forest sanctuary — a biome recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The park has 3 sectors and 16 trails open to the public, each with varying levels of difficulty and attractions. Your guide will take you on a gentle 3-kilometer hike, carefully planned to be accessible for all ages and fitness levels.
The walk through native trees and lush vegetation includes strategic stops at natural viewpoints overlooking the cliffs. With a bit of attention and luck, you might spot sea turtles gracefully swimming in the clear waters or resting on deserted beaches. The guide shares fascinating facts about local fauna and flora, turning each step into a genuine outdoor environmental education class.
The most awaited moment of the trail is the visit to the TAMAR Project in Pipa. Since the 1980s, this project has been carrying out research, management, and protection efforts for Brazil’s five species of sea turtles, as well as promoting community engagement, environmental education, and social inclusion activities. Visiting TAMAR is a rich experience to learn about important conservation efforts for sea turtles.
From there, the famous Pirate’s Stairway (Escada do Pirata) is a must-pass to reach the stunning Madeiro Beach, often ranked among Brazil’s most beautiful beaches. It’s time to swap your sneakers for swimwear and dive into the calm, warm waters that made Pipa famous. Enjoy a kayaking trip to explore the coast from a unique perspective.
After enjoying this paradise, it’s time to return to your accommodation. The drive back allows you to keep admiring Pipa’s beauty. The whole tour lasts about 4 hours, starting either at 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.
GET READY FOR THE ADVENTURE
To make the most of this journey, some preparations make all the difference. Bring two types of footwear: comfortable sneakers for the trail and sandals for the beach. The Northeast sun is intense, so waterproof sunscreen and a hat or cap are essential items for your backpack. Don’t forget your camera to capture special moments like turtle sightings or the kayaking trip.

Ideal for travelers seeking a connection with nature, the Sea Trail proves that the best experiences are often right before our eyes, where forest meets ocean, creating landscapes and memories that stay with us long after the trip ends.
