Astronomical Tour at the Bellatrix Observatory

The astronomical tour at the Bellatrix Observatory is a journey through the stars directly from Chapada dos Veadeiros.

Unveil the secrets of the sky in an immersive and unforgettable experience in the Brazilian Cerrado.

Imagine looking up at the sky and seeing the universe with impressive clarity, far from city lights, surrounded by the vastness of the Cerrado. In Chapada dos Veadeiros, one of Brazil’s most magical destinations, this experience is possible. In addition to its crystal-clear waterfalls, ancient rock formations, and unique energy, the region also boasts some of the clearest skies in the country for astronomical observation. Thanks to the dry climate and privileged altitude, Chapada dos Veadeiros is a true open-air observatory.

At night, the firmament transforms into a spectacle of lights, with planets, constellations, and nebulae shining with rare intensity. Who hasn’t dreamed of seeing Saturn’s rings, the detailed surface of the Moon, or a distant galaxy? It is in this spectacular setting that the Astronomical Tour at the Bellatrix Observatory takes place, a fascinating journey through the mysteries of the cosmos. Are you ready for a spectacular night?

EXPERIENCE START

The experience begins at the parking lot of Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, where you will be welcomed by a specialized guide and a professional astronomer. You can choose between two available time slots: the Canopus Group starts at 7:00 PM, and the Antares Group at 9:30 PM.

With headlamps, the guide will lead you on a short night hike to the observatory, a structure elevated 7 meters off the ground, ensuring a privileged view of the sky.

OBSERVING THE SKY

At the Bellatrix Observatory, you will encounter an impressive structure: a dome housing a 25 cm aperture telescope, equipped with a high-precision computerized system. The telescope, elevated 8 meters high and positioned at an altitude of 982 meters, offers a privileged view of the sky.

Under the guidance of the astronomer, you will have the chance to observe double stars, planets of the Solar System such as Saturn and Jupiter, the detailed surface of the Moon, and deep-sky objects like nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters. Each observation is accompanied by engaging explanations, revealing stories and curiosities about the cosmos.

But the experience goes beyond just the telescope! There are also moments of naked-eye contemplation, where you will learn to identify constellations and marvel at the Milky Way stretching across the sky. The silence of the night, interrupted only by the subtle sounds of nature, adds an even more magical touch to this stellar journey.

The experience lasts approximately 2 hours, is suitable for all ages, and requires no prior knowledge of astronomy. Throughout the tour, the astronomer guides visitors on a fascinating journey through the universe.

Whether you are passionate about astronomy or a traveler in search of new experiences, this tour promises to leave a lasting impression and illuminate your view of the cosmos. After all, few things are as thrilling as looking at the sky and feeling that we are part of something much greater!
