There, you can take a jangada boat ride, dive to explore the natural pools that form at low tide, go on famous buggy rides, and much more. And it’s in this paradise that you will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: to participate in reef regeneration activities and even plant a coral in the region’s sea.

Brazil is the only country in the South Atlantic where coral reefs can be found. More than 160 species have already been recorded, and many of them can only be seen in Brazilian waters. The largest concentration of reefs is found along the Northeast coastline, and Porto de Galinhas is the perfect destination to discover one of the most valuable ecosystems on the planet.

REGENERATIVE TOURISM EXPERIENCES

The stage for this experience is the magnificent sea of Porto de Galinhas, with its transparent waters in shades of blue. On a floating platform, marine biologists work on restoring the region’s ecosystem. And that’s where you’ll go!

The tour lasts 3 hours and begins right on the beach. A jangada (traditional raft) will take you through the lush nature and breathtaking landscapes. The view is simply stunning! Upon reaching the platform, a biologist will welcome you, and you’ll be able to observe the team’s routine dedicated to planting and recovering corals.

It’s a rewarding experience where you’ll learn all about coral reefs. And, of course, you’ll get hands-on! Alongside the biologists, you will fragment corals and help build a structure that will be taken to the seabed, allowing the fragments to grow. This way, you’ll become one of the few people in the world to have planted a coral!

FLUTUATION AMONG THE REEFS

The crystal-clear waters of Porto de Galinhas provide incredible visibility. From the platform, you can already see the coral nursery set up on the ocean floor. But you can go further and float with a snorkel to appreciate the entire structure up close.

The floating experience offers incredible moments! As you swim through the coral nurseries, you’ll witness species at risk of extinction being carefully nurtured. And with the region’s rich marine biodiversity, many colorful fish will make your journey even livelier. You might even spot a sea turtle while swimming!

ADOPT A CORAL

After floating in the paradise-like waters of Porto de Galinhas, helping with reef restoration activities, and planting a coral, the joy of making a difference will overwhelm you! You’ll also receive the care of one of the corals. Essentially, you’ll be adopting a coral and can follow its growth for a year. Isn’t that incredible?

HOW TO GET THERE

The nearest airport is Aeroporto Internacional do Recife. From there, you can take a taxi, bus, rent a car, or arrange a transfer.

Bus: The Cruzeiro bus company operates the Recife-Porto de Galinhas route.
Car: From the North or Recife: Take BR-101 (towards the South Coast) to Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Rota do Atlântico (with toll), PE-038, PE-009. From the South: Access via BR-101 (towards the North Coast) to Escada, then PE-060 to Ipojuca, PE-038 to Nossa Senhora do Ó, and PE-009.
