Flona Jamaraquá

Trekking streams, beaches, and riverside knowledge in an immersive experience in the Tapajós National Forest

Imagine a place where the river has waters so clear it looks like a mirror, reflecting the blue sky and white clouds like cotton. A place where the sand is so fine and light that you feel like walking while your feet slightly sink with every step. This place exists and is called Alter do Chão, a piece of paradise hidden in the heart of the Amazon. Where time slows to the rhythm of canoes gliding on the Tapajós River, and the sunset is a spectacle of colors painting the horizon in golden and pink tones.

Alter do Chão is also living culture, history, and magic. On the riverbank stalls, you taste fresh fish roasted on embers, seasoned with flavors only the Amazon can create. Local artisans transform seeds, fibers, and rubber into unique pieces, full of identity. And when night falls, the sky fills with stars so bright they seem within reach.

This paradise is the gateway to the Tapajós National Forest, one of the last intact primary forest areas in the Amazon, where century-old trees like the samaúma reach heights of 60 meters. Inside the Forest, the Jamaraquá community is an example of harmony between humans and nature, where natives guide visitors through trails that are true outdoor classrooms. Each activity is designed to protect the forest while generating local income. It is in Flona Jamaraquá that you will live one of the most authentic and rich moments of your trip.

The adventure begins at 9 a.m. at the Alter do Chão Tourist Service Center. Aboard a comfortable motorboat, the guide navigates the Tapajós River, passing through breathtaking scenery.

Jacundá Lake appears like a perfect mirror, reflecting every leaf, every cloud, in a silence only broken by the distant birdsong. Further ahead, Muretá Lake and Beach welcome visitors with their transparent waters in an irresistible invitation to breathe deeply and keep that moment not only in photos but in the soul’s memory.

The tour continues to the historic Pindobal Beach, where time seems to have stopped. Remnants of the rubber era recall a past that shaped not only the region but Brazil itself. While the guide shares vivid stories, it’s impossible not to feel the dreams, struggles, and resilience written in the landscape.

The Tapajós keeps gifting beautiful beaches like Cajutuba and Aramanaí, where white sand caresses your feet and warm waters embrace the body in a refreshing dive. The perfect stop to take pictures and enjoy the moment while cooling off.

Back on the boat, it continues to the coves of Santo Domingo and the golden dunes of Maguari, which stretch like waves frozen in time. Each stop is a gift, each moment a promise that the Amazon still has much more to show.

THE CHARM OF THE STREAM

Around noon, Jamaraquá stream reveals its most precious secret: a true paradise of transparent waters full of colorful fish. In this natural sanctuary, a stop for a picnic with fresh fruits while the forest enchants around you. Every bite is a celebration of the pure flavors of the land.

Next, a visit to the local craft store. In the skilled hands of local artisans, rubber becomes art. Each piece tells a story – of resistance, tradition, and love for the forest. Buying these works means taking home a piece of the Amazonian soul.

Then the forest calls for a walk along the famous Jamaraquá Trail. It is 9.1 km, taking 3 to 4 hours, guided by locals who know every root, every leaf. You will be impressed by the majestic Samaúma tree and the Tapajós River lookout, with an unforgettable view of the region’s fauna and flora.

TIP: For those who prefer a shorter forest walk, the 3 km trail lasting 1h30 offers the same magic, with gentler steps.

FLAVORS OF THE FOREST AND SUNSET

At the end of the trail, lunch arrives at the table like a gift. The fish, caught in the waters you just admired, melts in layers of flavor. The free-range chicken brings the taste of simplicity made with love. Every bite is a reunion with memories of grandma’s food carried in the heart.

When the day starts to say goodbye, the canoes take you on a farewell ride. The sunset dyes the stream with liquid gold, turning every drop of water into poetry. In this perfect moment, when time seems suspended, we understand the true meaning of peace. And when the first stars light up in the sky, the return to Alter do Chão begins.

SLEEPING IN THE FOREST

For those who want an even deeper immersion, it is possible to sleep in Flona Jamaraquá. You can camp in the forest, listening to the nocturnal sounds of Amazonian wildlife, sleep in a riverside straw house or on the boat itself. The night includes a campfire, fish roasted on embers, and, if desired, an exciting alligator spotlighting. The next day, after a delicious lunch, you return to Alter do Chão, passing by Pindobal Beach.

Flona Jamaraquá is not just a destination. It is a transformative experience! Every moment, from the first dive in the Tapajós to the last look at the stars, is a celebration of wildlife, riverside culture, and the grandeur of the Amazon. A journey that stays not only in memory but in the soul!
