Dive into a partially submerged cave, with a crystal-clear lake and an amazing forest of limestone cones.
With its crystal-clear rivers, grottos, and caves, Bonito is a true invitation for those who wish to dive into the region’s unique, unparalleled nature.
A paradise for adventure and ecotourism enthusiasts, Bonito stands out for its quality management of various attractions. Tourism activities follow safety and environmental preservation standards—such as international recognition as a Carbon Neutral destination—promoting more sustainable and responsible tourism.

Among the various natural attractions in the region, the Anhumas Abyss stands out as one of the most remarkable experiences the destination offers. This abyss is a partially submerged cave with a lush crystal-clear lake and a forest of limestone cones—including the largest cone ever recorded in global literature. This paradise is just 23 kilometers from the center of Bonito.
To reach the lake, you must descend by electric rappelling through a crevice to a floating deck. From there, you choose your experience. The options are: a ride on an inflatable boat around the lake; a boat ride combined with snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters; or a boat ride with scuba diving. Trained guides will accompany you throughout the experience, providing all the support you need.
ELECTRIC RAPPELLING AND SIGHTSEEING
It’s a 72-meter descent and ascent through the crevice of the Anhumas Abyss. The route is done with electric rappelling—consisting of a base, two steel cables, and an electric motor—and takes about 5 minutes. You don’t need to exert any effort, just enjoy the unforgettable view that unfolds!
Upon reaching the floating deck, the inflatable boat will be waiting for you for an unforgettable tour around the entire lake.
The boat glides over the water, revealing magnificent rock formations. It’s a vast expanse of limestone cones, many of which exceed 20 meters in height, with parts of their structures hidden beneath the water. During the journey, the guide will tell the entire story of the cave and the rock formations. With a lantern in hand, you follow the guide’s explanations while witnessing the wonders of the Anhumas Abyss in vivid detail!

FLOATING
Back at the floating deck, it’s time to put on the neoprene suit and snorkel to float in the lake’s transparent waters. As you enter the water and gaze down at the lake’s bottom, the sensation of levitating over a forest of submerged cones takes over. Visibility reaches an incredible 60 meters deep, revealing the grandeur of the submerged nature. Explore every corner of the lake and then enjoy a moment of rest on a float.
DIVING
If your choice is scuba diving, get ready to experience something truly unique! Certified divers can explore the city of submerged cones down to 18 meters deep. The introductory dive, ideal for those without a diving certification, goes down to 8 meters. Both options reveal unique visuals!
During the dive, you’ll swim among the formations and come face-to-face with the giant limestone cones. In addition to the rock formations, you’ll have the opportunity to see the skeleton of an anteater that fell into the cave years ago.
WHAT TO BRING
Visiting the Anhumas Abyss is an activity that lasts for several hours, and you need to be prepared. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, bring swimwear and a towel, and pack a backpack with water and snacks to keep your energy up during and after the tour.
