With each season, the region unveils new landscapes brimming with life. For birdwatching enthusiasts, the Pantanal offers the chance to observe over 650 bird species in their natural habitat. Hyacinth macaws, jabirus, herons, and ibises are just some of the birds that grace the skies in a stunning spectacle. The unique landscape combined with the abundance of species makes birdwatching in the Pantanal an unforgettable experience. And it is within this breathtaking setting that you’ll embark on a 5-day immersion that will stay with you forever!

START OF THE JOURNEY

Your adventure begins in Cuiabá, the capital of Mato Grosso, and from there, the journey continues by car into the Pantanal. It’s a two-hour drive to the town of Poconé, where the famous Transpantaneira road begins. From Poconé, it’s another 25 kilometers to reach the lodge nestled among the trees, offering direct contact with nature and a uniquely immersive experience.

To ease into your surroundings on the first day, you’ll join a nighttime spotlighting safari by vehicle, encountering various bird species along the way, such as nighthawks, potoos, and pauraques. It’s a truly incredible experience!

An experienced and passionate guide will be by your side throughout the journey, sharing fascinating stories and insights about each species you encounter, ensuring that learning is a central part of this unforgettable adventure.

3 DAYS IN THE PANTANAL

Over the course of three days, you’ll dedicate yourself to exploring nature and observing wildlife in their natural habitats. The forest surrounding the lodge is one of the most renowned birdwatching spots in the Northern Pantanal, attracting birders and photographers alike. Take full advantage of it!

The excursions begin at sunrise, when the Pantanal is at its most vibrant. Your guide will take you to different areas, increasing your chances of spotting birds. With a mix of walks, safari drives, and boat rides, you’ll have countless opportunities to witness an astonishing variety of wildlife.

During certain stops, you’ll see shorebirds like sandpipers and black skimmers, which migrate through the region throughout the year. The jabiru stork, with its long legs, white body, and black head, appears gracefully along the river, while the sunbittern leaps through the vegetation. It’s a colorful and musical spectacle that delights both novice and seasoned birdwatchers!

Mammals, reptiles, and amphibians are also part of this journey! Capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, coatis, agoutis, and pacas are just some of the animals you’re likely to encounter. And, of course, the rivers reveal caimans and giant otters, adding to the thrill of the experience.

The sunset in the Pantanal is a spectacle in itself. Savor every moment! At night, the calm of the Pantanal provides a perfect contrast to the day’s excitement. As you rest, you’ll hear the calls of nocturnal birds. Each new day brings fresh opportunities to explore and uncover more of nature’s secrets.

END OF THE JOURNEY

The fifth and final day of this experience is reserved for your return to Cuiabá. Depending on your flight schedule, you may still have time to enjoy a bit more of the Pantanal. The return route mirrors the journey in, offering a chance to reflect on your adventure.

You’ll leave with unforgettable memories—not just of the incredible birds you’ve seen, but of a deep connection with one of the planet’s most biodiverse and protected ecosystems.

Tip: Have extra time to explore the region? Combine this experience with a visit to Chapada dos Guimarães for Cerrado birdwatching or the Cristalino Lodge for observing Amazonian birds.
