Multiethnic Experience

Immerse yourself in indigenous culture in Chapada dos Veadeiros.

Discover the cultural and spiritual richness of indigenous peoples on a unique journey of learning and connection with the Brazilian Cerrado.

Chapada dos Veadeiros is much more than a sanctuary of crystal-clear waterfalls and breathtaking landscapes. Among its natural wonders, the region holds an ancestral cultural wealth, preserved by indigenous communities that keep the connection between humans and nature alive. These peoples are guardians of ancient knowledge, including medicinal plant wisdom, sustainable farming techniques, and spiritual practices that link humans to nature.

Participating in the Multiethnic Experience in Chapada means embarking on a journey of learning, exchange, and respect, discovering the wisdom of peoples who have protected the Cerrado biome and its traditions for centuries.

MULTIETHNIC VILLAGE

The experience begins in Alto Paraíso de Goiás, a meeting point for those who wish to immerse themselves in the world of indigenous cultures. The itinerary takes you to the Multiethnic Village, a unique space dedicated to preserving and strengthening indigenous and quilombola cultures in Brazil.

The village is home to eight traditional houses built by representatives of different ethnic groups: Kayapó/Mebêngôkré, Krahô, Fulni-ô, Guarani Mbyá, Xavante, Kariri Xocó, Alto Xingu, and Yanomami. Additionally, the area also features a house from the Kalunga Quilombo, the largest remaining quilombola territory in Brazil.

One of the highlights of the site is the Xapono, a traditional Yanomami house built in 2019 at the heart of the Village. Designed by Davi Kopenawa, one of today’s most important indigenous leaders, the Xapono symbolizes a space for gathering and exchange between different ethnic groups.

ANCESTRAL KNOWLEDGE AND NATURE

Each people has its own history, language, and unique traditions. Amid the Cerrado landscape, you will explore eight traditional indigenous houses, true expressions of ancestral architecture, built using natural materials and techniques passed down through generations.

In each of these houses, you will be welcomed by community representatives who share their stories, mythologies, and artistic expressions. The experience becomes even richer with traditional music performances, body painting, and the opportunity to learn about and purchase authentic handicrafts.

To enhance the immersion, audiovisual installations showcase the worldview and contemporary challenges faced by these peoples. Participating in the experience at the Multiethnic Village is a rare opportunity to learn directly from the guardians of the forest and the Cerrado, recognizing and valuing their struggles and ways of life.

SACRED PATHS

Beyond cultural experiences, the journey invites visitors to explore guided trails led by community leaders, unveiling the secrets of the Cerrado’s flora and fauna. Along the way, visitors learn about medicinal plants, sustainable farming techniques, and oral histories passed down for centuries. The trails lead to waterfalls considered sacred, where crystal-clear waters and the surrounding energy provide moments of introspection and reconnection with nature.

For those who wish to deepen their experience, there is the option to participate in rituals, such as herbal baths. In addition to offering moments of well-being and spirituality, these rituals reinforce the importance of respecting indigenous traditions and the knowledge passed down through generations.

By the end of this journey, you will take away much more than memories and photographs. The experience fosters a profound reflection on Brazil’s cultural diversity, the importance of environmental conservation, and the value of ancestral wisdom. A journey that transforms the way we see the world, leaving impressions as deep as the footprints left on the Cerrado’s trails!
