Cycle through the heart of the Discovery Coast on an unforgettable rural biking journey
This route connects Porto Seguro, Arraial d’Ajuda, and Vale Verde, offering a return to the origins and an immersion in the flavors, stories, and landscapes that shape Brazil.
Porto Seguro proudly preserves the roots of Brazil. The city is part of the Discovery Coast, the landmark region where the Portuguese first arrived in 1500, recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site. For those seeking to dive into traditions and breathtaking nature, the Discovery Coast offers a rich blend of landscapes, Indigenous culture, and unforgettable experiences.

Beyond the charm of its historic center and paradisiacal beaches, Porto Seguro enchants visitors with an authentic rural setting full of traditions. Exploring the region through a cycling journey promises an intense immersion into the beauty and simplicity of Bahia’s rural life. Over five days, you’ll explore Porto Seguro, Arraial d’Ajuda, and Vale Verde, navigating trails that take you through plantations, stunning beaches, artisanal farms, Indigenous reserves, and more. Each pedal stroke unveils a new scene and story, creating moments that will become unforgettable memories!
The itinerary spans a total of 120 kilometers, combining adventure, history, traditions, and, of course, the delights of local cuisine. Groups are small, with six to ten participants, ensuring a more personalized and engaging experience.
SUNSET
The first day of this experience is dedicated to your arrival in Porto Seguro and settling into your hotel. But as the day ends, you’ll enjoy a stunning sunset accompanied by flocks of swallows at the Tarifa Deck. Here, you’ll also have the chance to savor local seafood delicacies like lambreta (clams), guaiamum (blue crab), caranguejo (crab), aratu (mangrove crab), pitú (giant river prawn), and much more.
FAZENDA BOM SOSSEGO AND RESERVA DA JAQUEIRA
The journey begins with a bike ride along trails through plantations, heading towards Fazenda Bom Sossego, a producer of açaí, cupuaçu, and green coconut. Upon arrival, the hosts will greet you with fresh juices and coconut water, followed by a guided tour of the plantations. This immersive experience allows you to learn about sustainable farming practices and even participate in harvesting the fruits. At the end of this activity, you’ll enjoy a tasting of freshly prepared products.
From there, the tour continues to the Reserva da Jaqueira, a Pataxó Indigenous village. Here, you’ll be welcomed by the Indigenous community, who preserve ancestral rituals, dances, and traditions, offering a profound understanding of Brazil’s cultural roots. A short walk through the reserve reveals native flora, and after a traditional lunch, the tour heads back to the city. In the evening, dinner will be served at the Passarela do Descobrimento.

HISTORIC CENTER, BEACHES OF ARRAIAL D’AJUDA, AND THE TREVO DOS BÚFALOS
The day begins on Marechal Deodoro Street, with its cobblestone roads and colonial houses. The first stop is at the Tarifa dos Pescadores, on the banks of the Buranhém River, offering stunning views and a visit to the Fish Market. From there, the itinerary includes a ferry crossing to Arraial d’Ajuda, where you’ll cycle along some of Brazil’s most beautiful beaches. Calm waters and colorful cliffs create the perfect backdrop for this part of the trip. Naturally, there’s a stop at Cervejaria Arraial d’Ajuda to cool off with craft beers brewed locally.
The tour then proceeds to the Trevo dos Búfalos, a property where buffalo are raised in harmony with environmental preservation. You’ll explore part of the farm, interact with the animals, and witness the production of 100% buffalo-derived products. Finally, cheeses and other artisanal delights will be waiting for you during a relaxing picnic. In harmony with nature, this experience highlights the balance between production and preservation!
VALE VERDE AND PAU BRASIL NATIONAL PARK
After a restful night, the bike tour continues through the small rural community of Vale Verde, one of the oldest settlements in the country. Following visits to the Church of the Holy Spirit, the Historic Center of Vale Verde, and Brazil’s first Jesuit settlement, the tour proceeds to the much-anticipated cycling adventure in Pau Brasil National Park. Established in 1999 to protect the Atlantic Forest, particularly the Brazilwood tree, the park is recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site.
The park offers an incredible diversity of species, colors, and sounds, making every trail worth exploring. Highlights include the Maracanã Viewpoint, the Mussununga Trail, and the Patatiba Trail, which leads to the Jacuba Waterfall, providing a perfect end to the day in harmony with nature.
PORTO SEGURO
The final day of this experience is dedicated to exploring the historic center of Porto Seguro. The tour begins along the promenade of the Passarela do Descobrimento, with its charming colonial houses and the striking sandstone formation that separates the river from the sea, giving the city its name, “safe harbor.”
Next is a visit to the historic center, home to some of Brazil’s first buildings that have stood for centuries. Walking through these streets feels like stepping back in time. From the hilltop, you’ll also enjoy a breathtaking view of the ocean, with its vibrant shades of green and blue—a memorable way to conclude your journey.
